My Waking Dream.I awoke with a start, disorientated, thinking 5:30 had come and another day of Hell had begun. After my vision cleared enough for me to tell what blue numbers were on my clock, I realized that I had only been asleep for an hour. Only an hour had passed since 10:00. This was very unusual, since I have literally slept through a tornado, and thus am a very deep sleeper. I had little time to ponder this fact before a bone-chilling noise paralyzed both body and mind, a slight creak which had a more sinister meaning to me than an old house or a restless pet. Most would dismiss this as such, if the noise were even noticed. But it struck a nameless fear into my heart, for I knew what others didnt. I knew the truth. I turned slowly toward the source, each breath sharper, colder, seemingly drawing into my lungs the evil which had with such little noise entered my room. I could see the featureless yellow eyes glowing with malicious intent in my direction just as clearly as I could see the shadowy, misshapen body to which they where attached. I moved no more, breathed no more, blinked no more, all in vain hope that it could not see me. But I already knew better. It was staring through my petrified eyes and into my soul, feeding on my pure terror, and all I could do was pray that the light would vanquish it. In an instant of bravery gained by that thought I lunged for the lamp at my bedside, feeling immense relief as my fingers had flipped the switch. I turned triumphantly as warm light flooded my room, inhaling at last-only to have that breath of relief cut short by renewed terror. It was not two inches from my eyes, its black scales glistening in the light, its muscular arms tense and pulsing. It didnt move. It just squatted on the floor, at eye level with me. Staring... Waiting... The end

I was, I assure you, quite awake. It was strange...it seemed to take an eternity, yet not one second passed on my clock. It was the very first of an onslaught of nightmare which has made me who I am today.
